3Ds Link's Awakening Character Update 2

Here is our next character.

It's Link!

...isn't it?

Well for now it is, seeing as this is the guy you will be seeing most of, I want to get some feedback from everyone, just use the poll to the right, or post your opinion in the comments section.

Hmm... while i really like everything else you've shown, right down to the cucco, i have to say i really don't like the look of that link model, at least not from that angle anyway. I can't really pin point whats wrong with it, it just doesn't look right....

I would have to say try again from scratch on Link, out of all the 3D renders hes the one you really have to get 100% right, im sure others would agree.

Everything else you've done up until now has really impressed me though so i don't want to make it seem like im hating on your work with this.

Keep it up dude i look forward to seeing this project evolve into something spectacular.

Wow, your work will probably help me see where the heck to go and beat the game. Which I never did.

Looks cute but doesn't quite look like the Link in the game, I can tell you can do better. I can't quite put my finger on what about him isn't quite Link, and I'm sorry for that. Wish I could be of more help.

This -IS- a -badass- idea! Congrats and please keep goin'!

I appreciate the feedback, I too didn't think this Link looked right, he looked even worse with the Games actual pallet (He also has a friggen HUGE nose in the game)

I may just go back and re-model him to look more like young Link, but yes, please keep leaving comments, if anyone can actually nail down what’s wrong with him I will greatly appreciate it.

I was going to write a long explanation but I didn't think I could explain very well.. so I made a quick model.

It looks a bit odd from the front and the topology is rather crappy... but hopefully it'll help you :]

I really like what you've done so far btw. Good luck with it all!

too many shapes. simplify. think as if you were a sprite artist and were limited to pixels

you shouldnt have more than 2 major shapes, body, head. make sure everything reads immediately.

good work but make it better

I myself can't pinpoint whats wrong exactly either. But I have a few pointers. Try to think about body proportion before doing his head to body. Always keep several other link examples at hand while rendering him, this always helps for ideas/angles/features. The model alyx did is a good example. But your body would have to meet those standards. Also notice how the proportion in alyx's model has smaller ears and more curve to the face of Link. Others have said thinking of this as a 3D pixel art may help. I agree. I really like all you have done, Link is definitely going to be the most important render. Good luck!, and keep at it!

Use this as a reference as to how his face and clothes should look. Make it a "chibi" version of that, and it should look a lot better.

I agree with Alyx's model. You have to make sure it really feels like the little sprite we all know and love, but 3D. Alyx's looks almost exactly like the original sprite, so shoot for something similar.

Mithos, I think that the Link is okay, but he's got too big a head and the nose just looks wrong. Overall, I would say that it's not your best and you should re-do it. Since you see the most of him you'll probably have to do him over and over and over again, but don't lose hope, ok?
You're doing great so far and I'm very, very impressed.
