Art change?

One of my friends has got it in my head that I should use sprites in the remake, meaning all the areas, dungeons, objects, and bosses are 3d models, while all the characters and normal enemies are 2d sprites (he described it as along the lines of Ragnarok Online. This would vastly speed up production (and the sprites could be enhanced, like Street Fighter 2 HD Remix) but I would rather let you, the readers (the ones who will actually be playing the game) decide.

So, all 3d models, or 3d world, bosses, objects with 2d characters and items?

Aside from speeding up development (which is a good thing if done right), using 2D sprites will give a good deal of nostalgia for the original game. I can't really imagine any 3D versions based on the original sprites that would look any good.

well, i think cel shading would look awesome, but if you want to speed develop time you should use 2d sprites.
if you don't mind taking more time though, i'd love to see the game with cel shaded models

The easy solution is to make a dungeon screen with Link and a few Moblins present; one in your 3-D models and another with sprites, and then have a poll of which looks more playable/nostalgic/ect.
I was personally pleased with how the Chicken Hunter demo looked, but it just honestly depends on how well the sprites/models mesh with the surroundings is what will be the "best" choice.

Now, I personally think it would be better with 3d models. But I completely understand if you'd rather make it quicker and use 2d models. I can't really imagine how 2d models would look in a 3d world (images from runescape classic are coming into mind), but if you could pull it off well, I'm sure either would be excellent.

I like the idea of 3D models but I think it is very easy to mess up the look or animation of them.

The proof is in the pudding, is there any chance we could get some sort of tech demo where we could test each?

Considering the current poll results, thats probably what I'm going to do, two tech demos, one with sprite link, one with model link, both against the recently finished Rolling Bones mini boss

i support this idea.
