Okay, so, last night after rendering the latest quadrant (see last post) I went to save the overworld model, and Max froze while saving, which also locked up the rest of my computer. Yay.
Oh well, I say as I reboot my computer, I'll just play around with the Ridley model for a bit. And so I did.
Once I was done I decided to open up LA again to do more quadrant work
Oh, damn, the save file must have been corrupted when Max froze, good thing I've got autobackup turned on...
Oh... messing around with Ridley... overwrote... the LA backups...
...
...
So yeah, I have no working back ups of the Overworld that aren't nearly a month old. Thank you, Max, for not making separate autobacks for separate files.
I am at a loss as to what to do.

HOLY CRAB!
Yeah, pretty much, I'm debating whether I should just start from the latest backup (Martha's Bay about half finished) Start over and make the map actually good (as in made for playing on, not for viewing) Give up all together and work on Helix, Or completely give up and make an original game (i.e. not based off of an existing franchise)
Don´t give up, please!! I count on you :)
Well, I found an exported version (as in, meant to be put in game, not in the normal .max format) that has everything in it but the graveyard (and the grave models, joy :( ) wasteland, and pretty much anything else made after Feb 17 (Note, this DOES NOT affect textures, characters, etc, only the model data for the overworld), also the textures are messed up.
Believe me, after all the work I've put into this thing, I would really hate to give up, but the amount of work I need to do to get back up to speed is annoying to say the least. Maybe I should just release the busted .max file, see if anyone can fix it...
Whatever you do I really hope you don't give up. This is something I've been watching daily for all your cool new updates, and I really love that you're bringing an old classic back to life. (hopefully knowing you have fans that love your work will give you some encouragement to carry on :P)
And well in the scheme of things I'd have to say it could probably be worse, and it's good to know you have some sort of backup even if it's not too new.
I don't know how Max handles saving projects but if it's within the realm of usability it'd probably be a good idea to save a duplicate whenever you do a new quadrant so you've always got a new backup?
Don't give up man, while I want Helix I love this project too :)
Thank you, right now I think I am going to go on hiatus from updates while I get work on getting the model back up to where it should be (with updates every time I complete an area, rather then per quadrant)
And yes, from now on I am making multiple saves every time I complete a quadrant (and not overwriting old ones, so I have backups from every period :P)
As it stands, LA is the project I have the most faith in completing, I have two other projects, but they aren't very far;
Helix because I am afraid I might accidentally bring Nintendo down on both it and LA
And a as of yet unannounced original IP which is still in the planning phase, so yeah, I really want to continue with LA, and readers like you and Shoesy really do keep me motivated.
STRIKE! ;)
This ist the best message ever!
Go on...can´t wait for new (old) updates *SMILE*
you propably have hundreds of readers, its just that noone comments.
Yeah, It would be a shame if you dropped the project. I check your blog everyday, I really enjoy seeing my favorite GB game turn into something awesome like this. Keep going man, we're rooting for you!
Anonymous keeps watching.
Effin 3Ds Max
That program pisses me off to no end.
Everyday I find something new to yell at it about
But alas, I'm glad you still stuck with it and pulled through!
