I am a little confused about that cave there, according to my reference map it contains an empty room full of water, and I don't ever remember going in there while playing... anyone know what goes in there?

I think it was either a heart container or it was were you got that fish song.
But i could be (and most likely am) wrong.
I couldn't find my old LA strategy guide, but I did find this.

Yes, there's a heart container in the middle. Also I seem to remember you land there if you drop down a hole somewhere above.
